Auburn Football: Why Saturday's Win Is Only a Temporary Band-Aid for the Season

There is an old adage in sports that you only celebrate a win or mourn a loss for 24 hours after it occurs.

For Auburn, the team must put Saturday's 42-7 victory over New Mexico State behind and look forward to this weekend's game against UGA.?

When Auburn returns to the practice field this week, it can be motivated by how sweet the victory against New Mexico State tasted after win No. 2 proved to be extremely elusive.

The players on this team put in countless hours throughout the year in order to feel the way they did on Saturday afternoon. It makes Sundays much better as well.

"They've worked every week, and today, they deserved it, and they deserved to win," head coach Gene Chizik said. "I'm happy for them. I think this is something you can build on.? (via Charles Goldberg, AL.com)

As good as it was for Auburn fans to wake up winners and to see Toomer?s historic oak trees christened with toilet paper, Saturday?s win is only a temporary band-aid over a season that has proven to be a wound that can?t heal without a major operation.

Not much can be taken away from defeating a team in New Mexico State that is winless in the western athletic conference and had lost seven straight games before Saturday.

Some good things did happen that Auburn can build off of, as Chizik said.

Freshman Jonathan Wallace got his first experience as an Auburn starter and was able to play well after starting out slow.

Wallace went 9-of-16 with a touchdown pass and an interception.

Auburn finally committed to the running game. It ran the ball 45 times out of 61 plays. Even with New Mexico State loading up to try and stop the run, Auburn refused to get away from running the ball.

However, some of the same characteristics that has plagued this team for the entire season were still evident in the game.

There was the slow start on offensive and defense. Auburn was only up 7-0 at halftime. The Auburn offense had only 29 yards in the first quarter. New Mexico State had 126 yards.

There were missed opportunities throughout the game. Jonathan Wallace missed a wide-open Sammie Coates down the field late in the second quarter.

The defense missed multiple chances to stop the Aggies behind the line of scrimmage.

The Auburn secondary let a couple of poorly thrown balls slip right through its hands. The unit still only has one interception on the year.

In the coming weeks, Auburn will strap its helmets up and play against its two biggest rivals. Those two teams just happen to be the likely SEC East winner and the likely SEC West winner.?

Auburn will have to play much better than it did on Saturday if it wants to wake up a winner on the Sunday following those matchups.

With Saturday?s win, Auburn moved to 2-7 and is still likely to finish with without a win over a BCS opponent.

Saturday?s win feels good for Auburn fans and players that haven?t felt a win since Sept. 15th, but it serves only as a temporary? band-aid for the program and season.

More bleeding is imminent.?

Orange County Early Voting Hours Extended Sunday Following Judge's Ruling

ORLANDO, Fla. ? A judge extended early voting hours in one Florida county on Sunday after the state Democratic Party sued in an effort to give people more time at the polls.

Some voters had faced waits several hours long on Saturday, the last scheduled day of early voting. The judge ruled on a lawsuit filed late Saturday in Orange County after an early voting site was shut down for several hours. The Winter Park library was evacuated when a suspicious package ? a cooler ? was found outside. It was later detonated by a local bomb squad.

Bill Cowles, the Orange County elections supervisor, said that voters who show up on Sunday will be asked to use a provisional ballot. The extra hours will be offered at only the Winter Park library.

A Republican Party spokesman said the party was not challenging the decision. Brian Burgess said state law requires provisional ballots to be used whenever a court orders an extension of voting hours.

The Democratic state party also filed a federal lawsuit Sunday morning seeking more voting time in Palm Beach, Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

Voting in Miami-Dade County and Palm Beach County didn't wrap up until early Sunday morning because voters standing in line when the polls closed were allowed to vote.

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson and other Democrats asked Gov. Rick Scott this past week to use his emergency powers to extend early voting. The Republican-controlled Florida Legislature last year cut the number of days available for early voting from a maximum of 14 days to eight days.

Scott and state election officials, however, turned down the extension requests. Secretary of State Ken Detzner maintained that there was not a true emergency that justified the extension. Chris Cate, a spokesman for Detzner, said that the state did not plan to appeal the decision to reopen the Winter Park location.

The federal lawsuit says counties should offer absentee ballot voting at local election offices if early voting cannot be extended. Both Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties said they planned to do that.

"I decided to open because we are allowed to do so," said Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher.

Bucher noted that voting in her county did not wrap up until 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Her office started accepting absentee ballots at 9 a.m.

Christina White, deputy supervisor with Miami-Dade County, said the county also decided to accept absentee ballots for four hours on Sunday at its main office.

"We are hoping that (the Democratic Party) is happy with that," White said.

Broward County is also allowing voters to pick up absentee ballots on Sunday, but only if they made an appointment in advance.

Absentee ballot voting differs from early voting in that voters must fill out their ballot, place it an envelope and then sign it. The ballot envelopes are opened later and then fed into voting machines.

During early voting, voters place their ballots directly into the voting machines.

The Orange County lawsuit asked that early voting be extended at Winter Park and that the court ask local television and radio stations to let voters know about it.

The lawsuit included sworn statements from several voters who said they waited in line for hours and were turned away because voting was suspended at the site. A volunteer with the campaign of President Barack Obama said that the crowd of voters dwindled from 300 to just 40 after voting was halted.

Special Guest Speaker Visits ECSF's Business ... - EC English

Oracle Vice President Jeffrey Pease Gives Guest Lecture to Students

???? On October 4, Oracle Vice President Jeffrey Pease took time out from the company?s annual Oracle OpenWorld conference to speak to EC San Francisco?s Business Communications class on, ?What I?ve Learned About Leadership (So Far).? Interest in the session led to it being joined by another class.

???? Pease gave students an overview of the software industry and emphasized the career value of communications and interpersonal skills. ?Become a communications expert,? Pease advised. As you advance in your career, your specific hard skills become less important and your soft skills such as communication and the ability to work in a team become much more important. So those of you in this class are working on the right thing.?

???? Pease shared ?Things I Knew About Leadership That Were Wrong,? and offered job-seeking and work advice for aspiring leaders. He also offered encouragement students with unconventional educational or career backgrounds, sharing his own history as high school dropout prior to university and a high-tech career.

???? Students were full of curiosity and questions, from general ones about industries and business functions to requests for specific advice on changing careers. Twenty minutes of questions during the class bled over into a small line and another twenty minutes of individual Q&A after the session ended.

???? With student interest high, Cyndi Cadua, the Business Communications teacher, plans to follow up this session by bringing other businesspeople and entrepreneurs as guest speakers.

RG3, Luck & Co. may force teams, pundits to re-think expectations for new signal callers

Robert Griffin III has the Redskins off to a 3-3 start, but that doesn't begin to descibe his NFL impact, writes Scott Kascmar.

ANALYSIS

The 2012 NFL season will be remembered for many things, but one of the most interesting stories is the progression of the rookie quarterbacks.

This could be the year the book was rewritten on rookie expectations. The fearless five starters are still healthy and holding onto their jobs as we head into Week 7, an encouraging sign.

There has never been a season in the modern era (since 1950) where five rookie quarterbacks started in Week 1, but that was the case with Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Ryan Tannehill, Brandon Weeden, and Russell Wilson.

Only Wilson ? go figure, the only one who was a third-round pick ? has led his team to a winning record (4-2), but he has the best defense and plays in the league's most run-heavy offense. Part of what makes this group stand out historically is the way they have been relied upon so heavily and quickly in their careers.

When you look at all rookie quarterbacks since 1960 through their first six games, these five from 2012 are among the most prolific ever.

Rookie ranks since 1960 (games 1-6)

QuarterbackPass YardsRankPass TDRank
Andrew Luck*1,4883rd7T-2nd
Robert Griffin III1,3438th5T-17th
Ryan Tannehill1,4544th4T-35th
Brandon Weeden1,5192nd7T-2nd
Russell Wilson1,10813th81st

*Luck had a bye week and has only played in five games.

While Cam Newton had a record 1,847 passing yards at this point last season, there are three 2012 rookies who rank 2-4. Wilson may lack the yards, but he is the only rookie quarterback since 1960 with eight touchdown passes through six games.

Each rookie is managing a very different situation this season, and some have enjoyed more help than others so far.

Andrew Luck, Colts (2-3)
The most impressive part about Luck is his ability to take everything the coaches give him and effectively run the offense like a veteran. It is easy to see why he was such a highly-respected prospect out of Stanford.

Luck has been excellent in two-minute drills and running the hurry-up offense. The Colts ran a team-record 89 offensive snaps in their 30-27 comeback win from a 21-3 deficit against Green Bay.

He is very effective out of the shotgun, has been incredible at avoiding sacks and scrambling for first downs on key third downs, and had a three-game stretch where he led the team to a go-ahead score in the final 60 seconds of each game.

Luck has already thrown for over 300 yards in three of the five games; one more would tie Peyton Manning?s rookie record. He had 280 yards at the Jets in Week 6, though it was his worst game of the season.

The Colts run a lot of vertical routes and the running backs have just nine catches on the season. Luck is getting almost no yards after the catch from his receivers, as everything has been tightly contested and tackles are being made right as the Colts catch passes. Reggie Wayne has been a huge help and he is having a great season for Luck, but the young receivers are struggling to get open.

Concerns going forward are that the coaches ? that being interim coach Bruce Arians as Chuck Pagano battles leukemia ? may be putting too much responsibility on Luck. He is on pace for 803 drop backs this season, which would easily be a NFL record.

Some more screens, more play action (easier plays) could help Luck, as right now the running game has not been great and the offense is too fixated on wide receivers.

Playing with such an inexperienced team, the two road games have been the toughest (at Chicago and the Jets), and Luck has been pressing in each after getting behind early. Compared to the other rookies, Luck has faced the toughest set of defenses.

There will of course continue to be growing pains, but the future looks bright in Indianapolis.

Robert Griffin III, Redskins (3-3)
The quarterback known as RGIII is off to a hot start in what could be a historic season. It began with that big performance in New Orleans to start the season: 19-of-26 for 320 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT, and a 139.9 passer rating.

Of course the Saints look like hot garbage on defense this season, but it was one of the all-time debut games. Griffin has only been intercepted twice on 161 pass attempts this season. He may only have five passing touchdowns, but has already rushed for six.

Cam Newton received a lot of buzz for his dual-threat ability last season, but so far Griffin has been a more efficient passer and even more effective runner.

Through just six games Griffin has rushed 55 times for 379 yards (6.89 yards per carry). Only Bobby Douglass (475 yards in 1972) and Michael Vick (441 yards in 2006) have had more yards rushing by a quarterback through six games.

While Griffin has the skills to set some rushing records, he also is taking aim at Ben Roethlisberger?s rookie passer records for passer rating (98.1) and completion percentage (66.4 percent). Griffin is completing 70.2 percent of his passes and has a 100.5 passer rating.

Griffin had a late game-winning drive against Tampa Bay that was very impressive.

Mike Shanahan is showing he could still coach quarterbacks when not stuck with someone else?s trash. The Redskins have really tailored an offense to take advantage of Griffin?s unique skill set, and he has been put in the best situation to succeed individually among the rookie quarterbacks.

Calling lots of screens and short passes allows Griffin to get the ball out quickly to playmakers and get in a rhythm. Check the difference in how each rookie quarterback is throwing passes behind the line of scrimmage and deep (21+ yards) and the amount of yards after catch (YAC) received.

QuarterbackYards Passes Behind LOS Pct. 20+ Pct. YAC Pct.
Brandon Weeden1,519 231 62 26.8% 26 11.3% 876
Robert Griffin III1,343 161 47 29.2% 12 7.5% 774
Ryan Tannehill1,454198 39 19.7% 18 9.1% 634
Andrew Luck1,488 221 32 14.5% 26 11.8% 511
Russell Wilson1,108 152 25 16.4% 22 14.5% 373

Luck and Wilson have aired it out more, while Weeden and Griffin have often thrown short. Tannehill is in between the two.

The big concern with Griffin is his running style, size and injuries. He already suffered one concussion and could not finish the game. Washington?s backup plan also being a rookie (fourth-round pick Kirk Cousins) makes it even more important he avoids such big hits. He is more Michael Vick than he is Newton, though Griffin is more developed as a passer than both at this point.

Ryan Tannehill, Dolphins (3-3)
When watching Hard Knocks on HBO, it did not seem Tannehill would have any weapons to throw to, but Brian Hartline has exploded with games of 111 and 253 yards this season.

The latter came in Arizona when Tannehill passed for 431 yards, which is one short of Newton?s rookie record set last year (432 yards).

It was a rough start for Tannehill to have to go to Houston in Week 1, and his three straight interceptions in the second quarter gave Miami no shot that day. Never mind that the Dolphins followed it up with a fumble and fourth straight giveaway. That was a 30-10 rout.

However, in the last four games we have seen a much better quarterback and a very competitive Miami team. Reggie Bush is running the ball well and Cameron Wake leads one of the better defenses in the AFC.

Tannehill has rarely been spectacular like some of the other rookies, but he has been solid and has a legitimate claim that he should have won his last four starts. Miami just had to make a game-winning field goal in overtime against the Jets, but Dan Carpenter missed. They had a 4th and 10 to stop Arizona, but Kevin Kolb converted for the touchdown.

Without those plays, Tannehill would be 4-1 with two comebacks and game-winning drives. Joe Philbin may only be a rookie coach, but he has an offensive background and has Tannehill and the Dolphins playing much better than expected at 3-3.

Brandon Weeden, Browns (1-5)
The Browns were the last team to register a win this season, but at least they ended their losing streak, and Weeden had his first comeback/game-winning drive on his 29th birthday.

It was easy to say Weeden stepped into the worst situation just because it is Cleveland, but he has good pieces on the offensive line and the team used premium draft picks on running back Trent Richardson and wide receiver Josh Gordon. Greg Little never makes any catch easy on himself, and Mohamed Massaquoi has continued to disappoint.

After that horrendous Week 1 debut versus Philadelphia (12-of-35 for 118 yards, 0 TD, 4 INT, 5.1 passer rating), it was not clear Weeden really belonged in this league, but there has been improvement ever since. His unusual age means he must develop faster than some of these other guys, but he is also not the same investment when being just the No. 22 pick.

Not to write Weeden off yet, but he seems much more system dependent than the rest of the rookies, and Pat Shurmur?s coaching staff (Brad Childress as offensive coordinator) may not be the long-term answer. Improvising on the fly, throwing under pressure, touch-passing, in all of these areas Weeden appears to be lagging behind in the 2012 class.

Russell Wilson, Seahawks (4-2)
While Weeden?s stock may have fallen because of his age, Wilson?s discrimination was more due to his height (5-11).

But such an interesting prospect because of his strong arm and athletic ability, the Seahawks only had to invest the 75th pick in the third round of the draft to give him a shot.

After such an impressive preseason, Wilson beat out Matt Flynn for the starting job and has lived up to the billing in the real games. His early career may be known best for Hail Mary passes ? losing on two of them in college at Wisconsin and winning against Green Bay on the Golden Tate play ? but a few more games like Sunday versus New England and those moments will be forgotten.

Wilson became the fourth rookie to take out the Bill Belichick-coached Patriots as he completed 16-of-27 passes for 293 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT and a 133.7 passer rating. Russell outplayed Tom Brady in the fourth quarter, throwing a 46-yard game-winning touchdown to Sidney Rice with 1:18 remaining in a 13-point comeback win.

Russell has had a chance late in four games this season, and converted twice in big fashion versus flagship teams like the Patriots and Packers. He will get another crack in prime time this Thursday in San Francisco in a battle for first place in the NFC West.

Though limited in his attempts, Wilson does already have eight touchdown passes and may be the best deep-ball passer in the 2012 class. Wilson is 10-of-22 on passes thrown more than 21 yards this season, and has five touchdowns.

Should Seattle start to open up the offense and give him more chances, Wilson could be a dark horse as the lone rookie quarterback to lead his team into the postseason this year.

Not bad for the little guy out of the third round.

Highlighted Guild

  • Transcendence ? Galactic Republic

There are many playstyles that make-up gamers, so it only stands to reason there are several types of guilds ranging from casual to hardcore. While some guilds completely roleplay in character there are others just out to have a party like time. There are guilds into PVE endgame progression and those who are fully focused on PVP. Not to mention the many who blur the lines between the many types of guilds. This week?s guild, Transcendence, leans to the full-tilt PVP side of SWTOR. We will find out their beginnings, why they favor PVP and also learn how they are doing as they attempt to venture into Operations.

War Hero armor ready? Time to meet Transcendence after the Jump?

?

?

?

?

?

How did your guild get started?

We started with a coin flip in my apartment.? One of my best friends, Neil, suggested we use the name ?Epiphany,? while I preferred Transcendence.?? With that, we decided to start our guild, with our own vision and mission.? Regardless of the name, the mission was the same; enjoy online games with a Player vs. Player (PVP) focus.

?

Is SWTOR the first game for your guild?

Yes, though we are open for expanding to multiple games and genres.?? Whether it?s a first person shoot, a RPG, MMO, whatever, the message and meaning of our guild is still the same.

?

What was the motivation to start your own guild?

We were tired of joining guilds just to start working our way out the social ladder.? Typically, we?d join a guild, no one talk to us, give us resources, reach out to see if we need anything.? Moreover, people expected you to know the game in and out and were unwilling to help others in their guild until they?d ?proven? themselves.

We set to change this, focusing on a specific goal (top 10 PvP guild), reaching out to our members, whether level 1 or 50, gathering resources, and knowledge to further our goal.

?

?

?

Do you think some ?elitist? attitudes can hurt a gaming community?

Yes it can.? Some people have many hours, spreadsheets, and data to observe and manipulate the game.? They stop at nothing to be the best (much like real life).? As long as they aren?t destructive or negative to other parts of the community, I don?t think they?re bad.

But this is real life and most of those groups/guilds flame other people for not being or desiring to be at the top.? That?s where we step in.? We want to have some elite players that want nothing more than to be number one, but never do we want to sacrifice our relationships, environment and play style to get there.? That?s where our officers and members help guide each other to make sure we are congruent in this philosophy.

?

?

How does Transcendence differ in the gaming environment found in your guild?

We offer resources, guidance, with little to no expectations.? Everyone can fit in with this guild.? If you want to be an elite PvP player, sign up for Saturday night ranked warzones.? If someone wants to start a PvE operations team, we allow for creative innovation.

?

What server and type of server can Transcendence be found?

We are only on the Prophecy of the Five.? Since we are a PvP guild, it makes sense to stick to one server and focus our strength and resources on one server.

?

What made the guild decide on this type of server and faction?

We tired Empire and hated it.? While there are great guilds, players, and so forth, it seemed players embodied the Imperial personality.? The Empire (Sith) were all about gaining power with no recourse for others.? Sometimes people embody this philosophy even though it is a game.

With that being said, we have aligned ourselves with a great non-elitist Empire guild, Apollyon (http://www.apollyon.us).? Since story is such an important part of this game, we wanted a safe and friendly place for our alts and vice versa.? Therefore, we aligned with a great Empire guild.? We are gearing up for future events, open world PvP?ing against each other, ranked warzone groups, etc. We also have an Alliance with HVND, a fellow Republic guild. Below is a pic featuring some members from the guild HVND.

?

?

?

Your guild is very focused on PVP. How does Transcendence help guild members become better PVP gamers?

Friday nights (and any other really) is specifically set aside for ?gearing up.?? We required 1,200 expertise (the PvP stat) or full Battle Master gear to compete in our Saturday night group.? However, Friday is set aside so we can help mentor people to get gear, but also understand our guild strategies per map.? It?s been very successful at getting people?s gear/strategy prepared for the more competitive Saturday night ranked events.

?

?

What PVP goals does the guild have?

One, to be a top 10 PvP guild based on the current ranking system.? While there?s limited data in the preseason, we are gauging this on our individual ranking (rated stat).? Most people know the top 10 or so PvP guilds on our server, and there?s a lot of competition.

?

?

Since Transcendence is into PVP, what are some areas the guild feels needs addressed in SWTOR?

We really want open world PvP.? While there?s Illum, there?s really limited incentive to go there.? We are trying to make player based content by doing siege the castle on Quesh or 2v2 tournaments at the Outlaws Den.? We still need some type of incentive other than valor.

?

?

What things are they doing right?

The polishing they put on their content.? While there are bugs, a lot of bugs, I feel the overall game quality when something is released is great.? There are some games that I?ve played where nothing works right, customer service never responds, and there?s nothing you can do about it.? At least Bioware makes a good attempt at getting things right the first time (my opinion of course).

?

?

How have the new changes in Patch 1.4 impacted the PVP?

1.4 drastically changed resolve or ?stun locks.?? I feel it?s much better for skilled players because you can time stuns in order to lock down specific players such as a healer or a super DPS character.? People are frustrated with the system, yet these are the same players without a guild, voice communication, or a basic understanding of the resolve system.

?

?

Even though the guild is focused PVP, does the guild also take part in Operations?

We are starting too.? We?ve yet to do Operations on an eight man guild scale, but we?ve done them together a few times.? Starting about two weeks ago, we started running PvE content on Wednesday nights.
?

?

How has the guild done in SWTOR Operations?

Good so far considering we are mostly in PvP gear.? Thankfully the game has a story mode which one doesn?t need to be max gear in order to experience the content.? In fact, most of the PvP gear is sufficient to run normal operations.? As we progress, gear will continue to be a necessity not an option.
?

?

Has the guild had a chance to go through Terror From Beyond yet?

No, but I can?t wait to get there.? I?ve been extremely impressed on the quality and structure of operations and image this will be impressive to undertake.

?

?

?

What is your main character?s class/advance class?

My main character is Del?tia, Republic, level 50, Jedi Consular Shadow.? I absolutely love this class because of its versatility.? You?re not stuck doing one thing like my War Hero Sentinel.? You can control the battlefield and change the game.? Plus, I really enjoyed the story.

?

?

What are a couple PVP tips you can share with our readers?

First, enable the resolve bar in your user interface.? This is the most important part of PvP.? Second, model your playstyle after the best players.? If you see someone in the same class out preforming you ask them questions.? Ask experienced and geared guildies how they fair, about specs, gear, etc.? Knowledge is power and gaining more and more will only help you.? Third, take your time.

There?s a steep PvP tax when you hit 50, get destroyed over and over for about two weeks until you have a full battle master set.? Lastly, understand the game before you hit 50.? If you?re 40 valor or higher, you can store 3,500 ranked warzone commendations and 2,000 unranked.? When you hit 50, you?ll be able to buy some major upgrades before? you run one warzone and this will help you?re frustration factor.

?

?

What would you say is one of the biggest aspect overlooked, for a player at being more effective in PVP?

Keybinds is a good start.? People stick to the standard 1-0, space bar jump, etc.? I completely redesigned my keybinds which directly affects my effectiveness.?? For instance, space bar is target nearest player.? I rarely need to jump, but I always need to switch targets, why not have this as the number one most hit key?? Keybinds separate winners and losers in my opinion.? It takes a lot of effort to hit 9 verses Q for a major damage/healing ability.

?

?

?

I noticed in your forums, your guild is having a contest in October. Can you tell us about the contest and what sorts of prizes are involved?

We are trying to stimulate our website activity.? We are asking players to have five post within one month to be entered into a random drawing.? First place is a 60-day time card, second place is a physical security key, and third is 100,000 in-game credits.? Knowledge is power, we want to spread this message and have some fun while at it.

?

?

?

Is Transcendence currently recruiting new members?

Yes, we are always looking for friendly, mature, and PvP focused players.? We are currently recruiting all levels and all classes.? However, we are not recruiting for recruiting sake.? Just expanding ones roster does nothing for the overall mission if those players aren?t focused on the end goal.? Therefore, if people are interested in ranked PvP end-game, we welcome applications via our website.

?

?Why did you join Transcendence? What is one thing that you enjoy about being a part of this guild?

?I joined for a few reasons. 1. I love having a good group of people to pve/pvp with 2. Being able to communicate with a group makes the game more fun plus you win more. The thing I enjoy the most is the chance to share my experiences, and grow with a group of guys and gals that enjoy this game as much as I do. ? GrafAvenger

?

What is the best way for players to contact you or your officers?

In-game or email is probably the best two ways to reach us.? I give my email out, Jacob.hausman@gmail.comor PST us in game, Del?tia, Bioshock, or Azkren.? We are always in the Republic fleet, just show Transcendence and someone will help you (unless 2 AM or something). You also can contact us through the following social media outlets or our website:

Transcendence website

Transcendence Facebook page

Transcendence Google+ page

?

Does the guild welcome players to group up for Warzones etc. if they would like to see how the guild operates?

This is core to our mission.? When I log on to play, I immediately see who?s online (regardless of gear, rank, valor) and ask if they want to group or any groups already in action.? Reaching out to our members is the most important part of our growth.

?

?

I want to give a huge shout out to Del?tia for his help responding to all my emails. He and his officers really did a great job making this article possible, especially since I was gone on vacation this past weekend. I urge anyone that loves PVP or just enjoys having a good time head over to Prophecy of the Five server and get in touch with this guild!

Does your guild have a specific focus when playing SWTOR or maybe something that sets your guild apart from the rest? Hardcore or Casual, PVP or PVE or RP let us all hear about your guild! So if you are in a guild or a leader in a guild, why not contact me and see if we can tell the community about what you folks are doing. Just submit your guild?s website and some basic information in an email to me at, jason@corellianrun.com. Look forward to highlighting more guilds here at Corellian Run Radio. Thanks and see you next week!

Heavy shelling expels Syria rebels from Aleppo district

Rebels retreated from the key Aleppo district of Salaheddin under a deadly rain of shellfire on Thursday, with the showdown battle for Syria's commercial capital raging into a second day.

"We have staged a tactical withdrawal from Salaheddin. The district is completely empty of rebel fighters. Regime forces are now advancing into Salaheddin," said Hossam Abu Mohammed, a Free Syrian Army (FSA) commander.

"The fighters are withdrawing to (nearby) Sukari district, where they are preparing a counter-attack," he told AFP by telephone.

Abu Mohammed cited heavy shelling and the army's use of thermobaric bombs, which throw out a wall of fire to incinerate targets in enclosed spaces.

"A large number of civilians were killed, as were some 40 rebels," he said. "Forty buildings have been flattened."

State television said: "Our special forces have cleansed Salaheddin district of terrorists."

But Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said "there are still some fighters inside Salaheddin; it seems they are there to fight to the death."

Abu Mohammed said the shelling was "so heavy that we have a cloud of dust above Salaheddin."

Wassel Ayub, who commands the Nur al-Haq Brigade, said the FSA had withdrawn "to open a new front in Saif al-Dawla and Mashhad."

FSA spokesman Kassem Saadeddine told AFP by Skype that the withdrawal "does not mean we are leaving Aleppo. We have military plans to fight in the city, but we cannot reveal them."

In Damascus, a security source told AFP regime forces were "advancing quickly" in Salaheddin towards Saif al-Dawla.

"But the next big battle, which will be very fierce, will be in the (southeastern) Sukari district."

At least 17 people were killed in Aleppo, scene of fierce battles since July 20, the Observatory said, adding that two children and a citizen journalist were among them.

Nationwide, the toll reached 96 -- 37 civilians, 31 soldiers and 28 rebels -- the Observatory said. That compared with 167 on Wednesday, including 33 in Aleppo.

Elsewhere, fierce fighting also broke out on Thursday in Damascus province, where at least 15 people were killed, most of them civilians, while regime forces shelled Zabadani, the monitoring group said.

On Wednesday, loyalist troops launched their offensive against the rebels, who had claimed to control half the city, after President Bashar al-Assad vowed a day earlier to crush the rebellion that erupted in March 2011.

Meanwhile, activists on the Syria Revolution 2011 Facebook page called for the traditional demonstration following weekly Muslim prayers on Friday, with this week's slogan being "Arm us with anti-aircraft weapons."

On the political front, Assad appointed Health Minister Wael al-Halqi as his new premier following the defection this week of Riad Hijab, a leading Sunni Muslim in the minority Alawite-dominated regime.

Halqi served as ruling Baath party secretary from 2000 to 2004 in his home province of Daraa, the birthplace in southern Syria of the anti-Assad revolt.

Day two of the battle for Aleppo came as Syria's key regional ally Iran hosted a 29-nation meeting aimed at finding ways to end the raging conflict.

State media said the foreign ministers of Iraq, Pakistan and Zimbabwe were present. Lower-ranking diplomats, most of them ambassadors, represented the other nations.

Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi opened the meeting by calling for "national dialogue between the (Syrian) opposition, which has popular support, and the Syrian government to establish calm and security," according to state television.

He added that Iran was prepared to host any such dialogue.

Earlier, Salehi said Tehran was attempting to revive parts of former international envoy Kofi Annan's plan, notably: implementing a ceasefire, sending humanitarian aid and laying groundwork for national dialogue.

Excluded from the Tehran meeting were Western and Gulf Arab nations that Iran has accused of giving military backing to the insurgency.

There was no immediate word from the predominantly Sunni Muslim Syrian opposition and rebels on how they viewed the conference in majority Shiite Iran, a stalwart ally of Assad's regime.

On the humanitarian front, a plane carrying a French military medical team to help refugees on the Jordan-Syria border left Paris for Amman on Thursday with around 25 medical and 25 logistics staff.

The UN refugee agency estimates that 276,000 Syrians have fled, mainly to Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon, from a conflict activists say has claimed more than 21,000 lives.

Writer on the Side: Can you explain "SAVE THE CAT"?

Sometimes when you're struggling with?a new manuscript, it helps to read?a how-to?book like Anne Lamott's BIRD BY BIRD or Steven King's ON WRITING.? This past week, I?picked up SAVE THE CAT by the late Blake Snyder.? It's really a screenwriting book but is highly recommended by?fiction writers I know.

Clear,?concise,?filled with easy-to-follow examples, it was?just what?I needed to read.? In fact, I was so excited, I started trying to explain THE WHOLE TECHNIQUE to a writer friend.? Without Snyder's wit and examples, I think I came off as a very dull half-wit?repeatedly saying, "And he's so right about X, Y or Z." (My friend listened patiently all the same.)

??

Why am?I telling you about my retelling? Because as I?spoke aloud?the points that stayed most firmly in?my brain, I realized a weakness in my work.? The erstwhile CAT-SAVE (aka GIVING YOUR MC AN ACTION or CHARACTERISTIC THAT MAKES THEM LIKABLE AT SOME LEVEL (even if s/he's a criminal)) was missing.? Not that my character wasn't relatable, even nice--I just hadn't shown it in any early scene in the manuscript.

Now, I tend to be skittish about discussing works-in-progress?because?I it sometimes feel?like my lovely idea, as I speak it aloud, is dissolving into a mound of ugly, unwritable dust. In the face of my listener I see disbelief, uncertainty or, worst of all, boredom. Yet, talking about Save the Cat in the context of learning about my own writing was helpful.

Herewith I will a?draw a few conclusions from my?Cat-retelling exercise:

1. Saying aloud what you read helps clarify what you really learned.
2. If you're afraid to share an idea, maybe it really isn't all that great.
3. Sometimes talking through a plot actually helps you see AND FILL some gaps.

What's your favorite how-to book?? What parts of TALKING OUT LOUD help you improve what's on the page?

Unified Communications with Cisco SPA504G IP Phone

When was the last time you updated your office phone systems? If the answer is more than 10 years ago, you might want to think about doing it in the near future. Older phone models are becoming more difficult to fix and even harder to connect to your network.

Might Private Property, Chiefly Any Fuel Station, Become A Fantastic ...

Think about what type of commercial real estate you?re interested in before you begin investing. If you do not invest in the right real estate, you could end up losing a lot of money, and this is exactly why you should focus on the gas station and convenience store market. These tips below will help you make wise decisions when investing in commercial real estate.

See how your considered firm measure its results. Ask how they will make determinations regarding space requirements, property selection and other matters that are important to you. Knowing this before signing an agreement with them has many benefits.

This is necessary in order to confirm that the terms reflect the rent roll as well as the property?s documentation. If you fail to check out the terms, you might find something that is at odds with the rent roll and make the pro forma unreliable.

If you are viewing more than one property or possibly a great gas station for sale here and there, you may wish to create a checklist for each location. Accept the proposal responses during the first round, but before going further, notify all the property owners involved. There is nothing wrong with hinting that you have other properties in mind. It may help get you a better deal.

Make sure you consider any possible environmental problems. One huge concern is when the property you currently own has problems with hazardous waste materials. It?s up to you to be aware of the issues, fix them, and have them inspected once complete.

There are many websites available that offer information to investors; therefore, learn all you can before searching for commercial property. You can never learn too much about commercial real estate, so make it your aim to always keep adding to your store of knowledge about the subject.

When considering a piece of property, you must pay close attention to the surrounding area. In general, it?s better to locate a business in a richer area because rich customers obviously have more discretionary income. Yet, if you have a business that might thrive in a neighborhood where the not so well-off would opt to go to your business, then maybe that kind of neighborhood is for you.

Have an understanding on what exactly it is you are looking for when it comes to commercial real estate. You should write a list of which features are most important to you. For example, do you need a specific number of restrooms, a specific amount of square footage, or a conference room?

Hopefully with the tips that you just learned you can now feel more confident when it comes down to selling or buying commercial real estate. This collection was carefully constructed to help you begin to hone your buying or selling skills when it comes to commercial real estate.

At this juncture, in the case when you may want to find out significantly more pertaining to buying a gas station for sale, ensure you look to obtain extra important information => Click Here Now.

New Tech and Web Trends In 2011 - Zanzistor's blog

Web innovation and technology trends are at least as unpredictable as anything else, perhaps more so. Still, some trends are shaping up already, a few of which have been percolating for a year or more. There will be technological advances, attitude shifts and various convergences of devices, websites, personal tech and smart applications. The following themes and focuses, among many others, certainly ? will be in the news in 2011.Websites -Websites in 2011 will continue to feature lots of white space but with bold typography and surprising color schemes. More than ever, websites will reflect all the other elements of the company brand standards. The usage of bold, dynamic images will be employed to attract and invite visitors in. Huge images create a visual impact that the visitor?s won?t soon forget. In 2011, web designers will find themselves more comfortable using these visual statements in their design to convey the site?s tone.Social Media -Facebook will continue to dominate. With financial support from Goldman-Sachs, there is absolutely no doubt that the continued dominance of Facebook will continue with more and more businesses looking to expand their web presence by having a Facebook page. Another emerging trend will be the usage of Meta Tools that can publish to several social sites. Almost all newly popular social tools support Facebook, Twitter, Linkdln etc. Some of the tools, such as Amplify, Sendible and Sprout Social, tackle the problem of reaching all of your contacts, friends and followers across several different platforms.Web Search -Consistent change is the one constant for Google in 2011. As Google looks to expand their revenue sources and continue to further monetize search, more changes are bound to follow. Competition for Google always comes and goes, but this year there are some legitimate alternatives to consider. Bing, Yandex and DuckDuckGo are all signifiers of a much broader need as people don?t want to be forced to use Google. Blekko, an advanced search engine will be used more and more by professionals and SEO practicioners.Blogging -Miniblogging service Tumblr has rapidly become one of the biggest social sites, outgrowing its mnain competitor WordPress.com. Also it?s easier to use and has a sleeker web design than both Blogger and WordPress. Spam, security issues and constant hacking attacks are common on WordPress. In 2010, the introduction of Google Buzz continued to blur the line between blogging and social media use. It would seem as though content sharing and blogging have finally merged.Personal Tech -Constant connectivity will become mainstream. With terms like ?MiFi? entering our vernacular and proliferation of 4G networks, along with integrated wireless data, the notion of ?online everywhere? has arrived. These factors, combined with the introduction of touch-friendly tablet computers and the continued usage of netbooks, are ushering in a new era of computing without mice or keyboards. Smart phone user numbers will continue to increase in unison with ubiquitous connectivity. More and more applications will continue to become available to smart phone users. The theme of connectivity will continue in new ways. Smart phones will be able to control household appliances, integrate with your car?s CPU and connect with your household appliances. Soon, you?ll be able to run the dishwasher and finish drying your clothing ? without actually being at home.Technology and its associated products and services are being released faster, this is a trend that is unlikely to reverse itself anytime soon. Remain compatible and collaborative by staying informed of new innovations and product updates. Technology continues to afford all of us the ability to connect with each other and access information with greater frequency.

DA: Mass. dad shoots 2 kids, 1 fatally, kills self

OXFORD, Mass. (AP) ? A man who had recently separated from his wife shot his two children, killing his 7-year-old daughter, before committing suicide, prosecutors said.

A family member called police Saturday night after finding the bodies of 41-year-old Daryl Benway and his daughter, Abigail, in the master bedroom of their two-story Oxford home, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said. Benway's 9-year-old son, Owen, was found shot in the head in the kitchen and was taken to UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center in serious condition.

Benway's wife, Kelleen, returned home after the shootings, unaware of what had happened, and found a swarm of police cruisers and television crews, Early said. She was taken to the children's hospital, where authorities told her the fates of her children and husband.

Neighbors told the Telegram & Gazette that Daryl Benway's brother Shawn lived on the first floor of the home with his wife and mother. Shawn Benway called 911 to report the shootings, Early said.

Daryl and Kelleen Benway separated three or four weeks ago but were still married, Early said. He said he couldn't speculate on a motive.

No restraining orders had been filed against Daryl Benway, and he had no criminal record, the DA said. He had a gun license that expired in 1999, Early said.

"It doesn't get much worse than this," Early said. "It's a horrible scene, a horrible situation."

On Daryl Benway's Facebook page, his profile picture posted December 2011 showed him with his family in front of a Christmas tree. He described the woman next to him as "my Beautiful wife Kelleen." Owen stood in front of him in a white dress shirt and red plaid tie, while brown-haired Abigail wore a black and white dress with a black hair bow.

Daryl Benway listed his place of employment as TJX Cos., which operates discount retailers TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods, as well as Ross Stores Inc.

Sue Brennan, who lives behind the Benways, said Daryl Benway always seemed easy-going.

"He's the most happy-go-lucky guy I know. I just don't see him doing that," Brennan, 47, told the Boston Globe.

Michael Courtemanche, of Webster, said he grew up with Benway and although he hadn't spoken to him much over the past 10 years, he saw him just three days ago.

"They were excellent, a good family," Courtemanche, 40, told the newspaper. "Just like any other family, they had problems. But Daryl was always friendly, always in a good mood."

'666 Park Avenue': Cast And Producers Preview 'A Different Kind Of Horror' At TCAs

If you take Terry O'Quinn and Vanessa Williams, add two devilishly villainous roles and a sprinkling of paranormal activity on the Upper East Side, it certainly sounds like a recipe for success. At least that's what ABC is hoping for with its new supernatural series "666 Park Avenue," which brought O'Quinn and Williams to the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour on Friday, along with co-stars Rachael Taylor and Dave Annable, and executive producers David Wilcox and Matthew Miller.

"Lost" alum O'Quinn is no stranger to enigmatic roles, but his character Gavin Doran is a whole new breed of sinister -- so creepy that even John Locke might hesitate to tangle with him. As the owners of the luxurious Drake at 666 Park Avenue, Gavin and his wife Olivia (Williams) may seem charismatic, but they -- along with the building they inhabit -- are hiding a undeniable dark side.

O'Quinn expressed his enthusiasm for playing "characters [with] a lot of secrets," while "Desperate Housewives" star Williams compared her new character to one of her most iconic roles: Wilhelmina Slater on "Ugly Betty."

"I loved the world, without giving a lot away -- it's a world that i wanted to explore, it's the Upper East Side, it's luxurious," she explained, when asked why she was attracted to the character. "I thought about the Madoffs immediately ... And a little bit of Donald Trump, the power and mystique of his buildings. At this point, I see [Olivia] as a mafia wife, where [Gavin] has supreme power, but she is aware of a lot of things that happen. She doesn't know all the details, but she is aware of the makings of what goes on at the Drake ... [She's] sort of like Wilhelmina, where she worked her way up to the upper echelon."

Still, as evil as they may be, executive producer David Wilcox promised that Williams and O'Quinn's characters will also be "very human as well. It was very important in creating this show that the characters not be two-dimensional. We don't know a lot about the Dorans yet, but as the show progresses, we're going to learn a lot more about them, and I guarantee, they're not what you expect."

Wilcox, who is a lifelong horror fan, has been waiting to bring a spooky series to primetime. "To me, it's the kind of genre that really has a direct connection with the audience," he said. "When I was introduced to the [666 Park Avenue] books, I thought this could have the DNA that could really work on network television and could be a very scary, yet character-driven, supernatural soap."

Wilcox pointed to Stephen King, Alfred Hitchcock and the horror movies of the '70s and '80s as influences for the series, especially "The Shining" and "Rosemary's Baby."

Still, since it's ABC and not FX, Wilcox admitted that there are limits to how gory the series can be. "From the beginning, I told my writers, 'We don't have the tool of gore and blood and that kind of spectacle,' so it's forced us to be a lot more clever about how we tell these stories. We look at Hitchcock films, and how much of that story keeps playing in your head even when it's not playing on screen. There are people who love to see blood and murder and mayhem, and there are other shows on cable that have that freedom to do that. ['666 Park'] is a different kind of horror -- it's a psychological horror; it's driven by suspense, it's driven by mystery."

O'Quinn grew accustomed to theorizing about the twists of the narrative during "Lost," and that trend seems set to continue with "666 Park," since he's already trying to predict how his Faustian character may develop. "My theory is that Gavin's kind of a sharecropper on the plantation of evil; he gets his share and he uses people to his own ends, but he has to satisfy the farmer," he teased.

Wilcox wouldn't comment on O'Quinn's prediction directly, but did admit, "The building has a presence -- it has a spirit that seems to be working hand in hand with Gavin Doran. It may be more powerful than anyone knows."

"666 Park Avenue" premieres Sunday, Sept. 30 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. See a full list of ABC's fall premiere dates here.

Are consumers aware that they are drawn to the center when choosing products?

ScienceDaily (July 16, 2012) ? Consumers are more likely to select products located in the horizontal center of a display and may not make the best choices as a result, according to a new study in the Journal of Consumer Research.

"A close investigation of visual attention reveals that consumers do not accurately recall their choice process. Our findings emphasize the relationship between horizontal location, attention, and choice," write authors A. Selin Atalay (HEC Paris), H. Onur Bodur (Concordia University), and Dina Rasolofoarison (Aston Business School).

Many products are arranged horizontally. For example, rows of snack bars in a vending machine, bottles displaying the beer selection in a bar, or jars of peanut butter on a supermarket shelf. How does this influence which option a consumer will choose?

Using eye-tracking devices, the authors investigated how location influences choices for products as varied as vitamins, meal replacement bars, and energy drinks. Consumers had a tendency to increase their visual focus on the central option in the final five seconds prior to a decision and this determined which option they would choose. Consumers did not accurately recall their choice process and were not aware of any conscious visual focus.

Another study in a retail environment demonstrated that the centrally located item within a product category is chosen more often, even when it is not placed in the center of the shelf or visual field. Consumers would make better choices if they were aware that their attention usually focuses on the center.

"In the context of low involvement choice between frequently purchased products, when choosing between unfamiliar yet equivalent brands, the visual search process and consumer choice are biased toward centrally located options. Being unaware that our attention is focused on the center can lead to poor choices," the authors conclude.
